TANGKAK: “Orang Melayu perlu menghentikan budaya hulur jikalau mereka inginkan masyarakat mereka menjadi berjaya dan dihormati” kata, Timbalan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

Kalau sesiapa yang mengamalkan budaya sebegini menjadi pemimpin dalam parti, ini akan mengakibatkan UMNO yang lemah, beliau memberitahu delegasi di mesyuarat cawangan UMNO Ledang semalam.

Najib berkata demikian merujukkan kepada tanggapan popular bahawa memberi bayaran adalah satu cara untuk mendapatkan sokongan.

“Budaya hulur, sebagai cara untuk meraih sokongan, tidak akan menolong Melayu menjadi satu masyarakat yang berwibawa”, kata Najib.

TANGKAK: The Malays have to stop the hulur (handout) culture if they want their community to be one that is excellent and respectable, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

If those who practise such culture become leaders in the party, it would lead to a weak Umno, he told delegates at the Ledang Umno division meeting here yesterday.

Najib said this in reference to a popular notion that a way to lobby for support is to give below-the-counter payments.

“The hulur culture, as a means to lobby for favours, will not help the Malays become an excellent community,” said Najib.

“Our political struggles in Umno are far from over. We must continue the struggles for the sake of the Malays, the nation and Islam,” he said.

Najib said Umno did not struggle for the Malays to become mat rempit (illegal street racers) or to have HIV but to excel in politics, economy, education and other fields.

On Malaysian forces serving in Lebanon, Najib, who is Defence Minister, said they would carry out their duties according to the United Nations mission and directives.

“We have sent troops before to serve under the UN such as in Bosnia and we will do as directed by the UN,” he added.

At another function, Najib said due importance to knowledge and technology would make the Malays a successful and powerful race.

“Times have changed. Wealth and riches no longer come with having land grants,” he said when opening the Muar Umno delegates conference.

Citing Bill Gates as an example, Najib said he became the world’s richest man and powerful because of technology.

“He is so powerful that he can invite the president of China to visit his house in the United States.

“He uses his brain and mind to develop the information technology needed for the computer system,” he added.

Najib, who is Umno deputy president, said the Govern- ment’s policy was for every child to be given at least 11 years of education but there were still those who dropped out from school in Year Four or Year Five.

He said education was important and the Malays should continue their quest for greater knowledge, including in technology.

“We in Umno cannot just shout the words Hidup Melayu or Hidup Umno to become strong as they are only slogans.”

Who do you vote for in the 13GE in Malaysia?

The 13th General Elections of Malaysia is about 7 days away. What are the main issues concerning the voters? Is it local issues like the road conditions, drainage system, community events...etc OR national issues like corruption, leakages, national development policies, economic management...etc? There are three groups of voters:

1. To some voters that I spoke to, they believe that the current incumbent Barisan Nasional (BN) government has brought development like businesses and schools in their area and those reasons are enough to provide BN another mandate of 5 years on top of 55 years being in power despite the grand abuse of public fund like the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) Cow-Condominium scandal, Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal...etc. These group of voters believe that physical development, job opportunities and direct cash handout to the low-income earners surpasses the gross corrupt scandals involved. In other words, as long as the government give them something, it doesn't matter how much public fund was used to buy those things, then they will keep voting for that kind of government.
2. To other voters that I spoke to, they believe that any government mandated by the people should bring development that is sustainable (to nature and future generations), accountable (involving public feedback and extensive impact assessment on the socio-economic perspective), transparent (open tender, public accessible information relating to usage of public fund)...etc.These group of voters are usually exposed to alternative information like the online news portal or social network apart to what is provided by the main-stream media.
3. And interestingly, there is still a substantial amount of voters believe that as long as an elected representative whether as Member of Parliament or State Assemblymen can ensure proper drainage, proper rubbish collection and disposal, ability to direct local councils, smooth road pavement on major roads and school will be re-elected regardless of national issues involving the ruling coalition that the he/she represents. In other words, they don't mind what their elected representatives do or speak at the Parliament and State Assembly as long as they can direct the local councils to fix their road and unclog their drain.

So which voter group do you belong to?

You want a Member of Parliament that can bring local development regardless of possible abuse of public fund and cronyism?

OR a Member of Parliament that can bring sustainable, accountable and meaningful development and speak up for you in National Policies and Economic Management at National level?

OR a Member of Parliament that ensure proper drainage, road pavement and rubbish disposal in your area regardless of what other thing she/he does for you in the Parliament at National level?

Ubah Sekarang! Bersihkan Malaysia!

Satu lagi NGO yang berpangkalan di London, Global Witness (GW) (Video boleh didapati di bawah) juga telah mendedahkan bukti video yang mendakwa bagaimana ahli keluarga Ketua Menteri Sarawak, Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud dan rakan perniagaan menyalahgunakan lesen pembalakan untuk memperkayakan diri mereka.

Sebagai pemimpin Sarawak yang korup selama 32 tahun, Taib Mahmud telah merompak sebahagian besar kekayaan hutan balak Sarawak untuk keluarga dan kroni perniagaannya serta memusnahkan kehidupan dan alam sekitar penduduk pribumi.

Hutan Sarawak dimiliki oleh semua rakyat Sarawak, bukan Taib Mahmud dan kroni-kroninya.

Cash Handouts (BR1M) "to sing" support for BN in 13th GE

February 2 2013- As the clock ticks closer to the Malaysian 13th General Elections (GE) with predictions to be held in the next two months. Parliament automatically dissolves in April 2013 if the GE are not called earlier by the Prime Ministers Najib Razak of Barisan Nasional (BN).

Prime Minister Najib Razak continues to play "Santa Claus" with Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia (BR1M) or known as 1 Malaysia People's Aid with cash handouts of RM 500 to household earning RM 3,000 or less per month and also RM 250 to singles earning RM 2,000 or less per month. PM Najib who hailed from the ruling coalition of BN has been talking about how caring his government is as more people are getting this second round (BR1M 2.0) cash handouts as compared to BR1M.

Despite a feel good factor for those recipients and who is not happy when given money? The real concern remain unanswered:

• Why are the more and more households earning less than RM3,000 and bachelors earning less than RM 2,000 per month in Malaysia? If the economy is vibrant and the correct path to high income nation is on track, they should be less eligible recipients because citizens are getting richer with a higher income. BRIM does help Malaysians but why are they still so many Malaysians hovering on the edge of low income and poverty?

• How about the rampant corruption and multi-billions of illicit money outflow? Has the government address that? Where has the money gone?

• The rising national debt against country's gross domestic product (GDP) which is above 50%. With so much debt at the moment, is the government borrowing money to pay the citizens?

The BN government seemed to be pre-occupied with winning the 13th General Elections, despite the failure to address fundamental adverse economic issues like a majority of population earning a low income, enormous illicit money outflow/ corruption cases and rising national debt, even under PM Najib's government since taking office in 2009.

Recipients of BR1M, be happy BUT do not forget the fundamental adverse economic issues that needed to be addressed and rectified, if the BN Government cannot fix those issues, vote in Pakatan Rakyat and experience real changes.

Disgusted by the conduct of Sharifah Zohra Jabeen

An undergraduate student, Bawani from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) asked in the student forum:
"Why Malaysia can't have free education from pre-school to university first degree?" (She provided example with countries like Argentina and Cuba).

The speaker at the forum, Sharifah Zohra Jabeen answered:
"Don't equate Malaysia with other countries, if you equate Malaysia to other countries, what are you doing in Malaysia? Go to Cuba, go to Argentina, go to Libya, go everywhere." 

in which the speaker Sharifah added a statement refering to Bawani:
"Every human in here has had education, and today I am very sorry that somehow you have proven that you the very least of pendidikan [education]..."

Sharifah then gave a vast examples of problems faced the animal kingdom, cattle, goats slaughtered, sharks killed for their fins and asked Bawani:
 "Have you ever fought for animal rights?"

Sharifah add on:
"If you are not happy, you are very much suitable to go to another university!"

For the past few decades, the authorities had placed numerous obstacles for opposition parties to gather en masse, citing security concerns and traffic as the usual reasons.

The People's Uprising Rally (KL112), in keeping with its revolutionary theme, saw the authorities essentially giving opposition parties free passage to do almost whatever they wanted.

Obviously, there was a political gamble at play in view that the 13th general election is around the corner. Malaysiakini examines who had most to gain from this high stakes gamble.

WINNERS

Pakatan Rakyat

Even before the rally was concluded, photographs of an overflowing Stadium Merdeka had gone viral over the Internet, proving to undecided voters that the coalition does enjoy mass public support and is a legitimate candidate for Putrajaya.

What Pakatan needs to do now is to take advantage of momentum and spread the central message of the rally - the ten point declaration - throughout the country.

Civil society

Several key civil society movements, especially for environmental causes, have grown exponentially in strength over the past years and command a sizeable following, which was displayed during KL112.

Evolving from the initial not-in-my-backyard (Nimby) philosophy, Malaysia's various green movements have now gone national as people begin to recognise the importance of civil society in shaping the nation.

In the run up to KL112, the police released several statements in an accommodating tone, to the extent of promising that they had set a ‘zero casualty' target.

The whole time, inspector-general of police Ismail Omar didn't say a single word, leaving the talking to his subordinates.

Had things turned sour, Ismail would have taken the rap as usual. But now, he will be remembered for the fact that his men stayed true to their word.

Traders near Stadium Merdeka

Save for one stall owner selling gas masks, traders who set up shop around Stadium Merdeka were all smiles because they were enjoying brisk sale of T-shirts, drinks and food.

Previously, one group of traders claimed Bersih 3.0 had cost them great losses. Perhaps they should sharpen their eye for opportunities.

LOSERS

Najib Abdul Razak

In the past, Pakatan wasn't able to fill half of the 25,000 capacity MBPJ Stadium in Kelana Jaya. Was the prime minister hoping for the same this time round, so he could ridicule them later?

Internally, Umno die-hards are probably curious to know why their president allowed the event to proceed when it could have been dealt with, by many old and proven methods.

More importantly, the public will also be questioning Najib and his party on whether they can pull off a similar spectacle without paying the participants.

Umno and BN

From sodomy to a Christian conspiracy to eroding Malay rights, Umno and BN component parties have slung mud in every shape and size at Pakatan since 2008.

If the turnout was an indicator of reputation, nothing appears to be sticking.

Mainstream media organisations

Save for Sinar Harian and all the Chinese media organisations, the focus was not on turnout nor the message of the rally but the various infractions chalked up by the rally organisers.

Unfortunately for them, videoclips and photographs - in particularly an aerial shot by AFP capturing the scene in and around Stadium Merdeka - are being widely circulated online, helping the public to have a clearer understanding of what transpired.

2013: Dawn of Hope for a better Malaysia

Hi everyone,

Frequent readers of my blog are most likely convinced that I am a pro-opposition blogger in Malaysia. As a matter of fact, I believe in equal rights to be heard. Why? Everyone in Malaysia must agree that the main stream media in Malaysia whether TV stations, Radio stations or Newspaper agencies are owned or have direct linked with the ruling political party of Malaysia, "Barisan Nasional" or "National Front" who have since ruled the country on federal level since independence in 1957.

Federal opposition leaders or parties or federal opposition ruled- state governments are being demonized on the daily basis by main stream media in Malaysia reports literally that "no good" can come from opposition parties (Pakatan Rakyat or "People's Alliance")

Everyday Pakatan Rakyat leaders and Pakatan Rakyat ruled-state governments of Kelantan, Kedah, Penang and Selangor are being painted as "no good" can come from them and their state governments. Therefore, as the founding tagline and reason for this blog, I would like to provide an additional alternative voice for real issues concerning the people and also to presents views on Pakatan Rakyat in a fairer way. So, Barisan Nasional government does not need additional media coverage or attention from this blog to promote it's propoganda, "promised-fulfilled" campaigns and slogans.

Since March 2008 when Barisan Nasional government lost their 2/3 majority in Parliamentary seats for the first time and also lost the mandate to run the states of Penang, Kedah, Perak, Kelantan and Selangor. It was a political tsunami that shocked everyone, many believe that Barisan Nasional government will repent and be serious in good governance but from 2008 to 2012, we do not see enough commitment and real changes to deal of fundamental issues like corruption, education, media freedom (where rankings got worse in the past few years). Racial and religions issues were played up and more extreme than before, human rights got worse. Budget deficits continue to run high and Nation's debt continue to increase from huge to colossal and illicit financial outflow ranked 3rd in the world!

Can we really believe that all these bad ratings, rankings and shaky financial status are the results of the opposition parties in action? 

I am not saying that "no good" has come from the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, in fact the BN government did alot to develop the nation, did what most of the other governments of the world did, like building schools, hospitals, roads, housing for the poor...etc but isn't that what all governments should do? What I am worried about is the amount of things that a government should not do like abuse of power, dictatorship, unfairness, corruption, leakages...etc?

So I believe that the BN Government did alot what any other governments in the world SHOULD DO but I am also acutely worry about the things that a government SHOULD NOT DO!

The DON'Ts are overwhelming the DOs of the BN Goverment, and it only got from bad to worse since 2008 to 2012.

Najib’s four-year premiership will be remembered by Malaysians as an administration of plunging global indices, and this unpleasant fact has been underlined by three international reports in the last month of this year, viz:

Corruption - In the four-year Najib premiership, Malaysia’s Transparency International (TI) Corruption Perception Index (CPI) rankings sunk to the lowest depths in 18 years – No. 56 in 2009 and 2010, No. 60 in 2011 and No. 54 in 2012 as compared to the worst ranking of No. 23 under Mahathir and No. 47 under Abdullah – suggesting that corruption under the present Prime Minister is even worse than under all the previous Prime Ministers, Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun Razak, Tun Hussein, Tun Mahathir and Tun Abdullah.

No. 1 in per capita capital flight : Latest Global Finance Integrity report showed that on a per capita basis, Malaysia with a population of 28 million, is No. 1 in the world on illicit money outflow – whether in terms of black money siphoned out of the country for 2010, which is RM196.8 billion, or for the past decade (2000-2010), which is a whopping RM871 billion or equivalent to over RM31,000 for each of the country’s 28 million population.

Double-whammy of decline in maths and science standards by Malaysian students when compared with foreign countries well as with past batches – In TIMSS 2011 for eighth-grade students, Malaysia is ranked No. 26 with a score of 440 out of 1,000 for mathematics and even lower for science at No. 32 with a score of 426, both below the international average. They are also the worst scores for Malaysia in the four TIMSS 1999-2011, i.e. in maths dropping by 79 points from 519 in 1999 to 440 in 2011; in science, dropping by 66 points from 492 in 1999 to 426 points in 2011.

These are not signs of national transformation but national deformations.

Let 2013 end the national deformations and usher in an era of genuine national transformation for Malaysians by electing a new Pakatan Rakyat Malaysian government for the first time in 55 years.

BERSIH 3.0 (Part 2)

The mainstream media in Malaysia have been publishing and playing again, again and again over the few acts of provocateurs/ saboteurs of the nationwide's (and worldwide) rally calling for free and fair election in Malaysia "Bersih 3.0" on 28th April 2012. The provocateurs may only represent as much as 0.001% (Max.) of the rally participants.

The Malaysian authority even censored part of international media report on the rally broadcasted on Malaysian channels and have earned criticism and show-cause statement from media like the BBC and Al-Jazeera.

How about the rest of the 99.99% of the participants? Are they given a fair coverage of their views and aspirations? Are they also not the rightful citizen of the country? Must their views be deafen  and considered as traitor to the country and ungrateful people because they simply do not agree with the government over certain issues? Must the 99.99% be treated with razor-wires, batons, tear-gas and chemical-laced water ? is there fairness?

Have a glimpse of the rest of the 99.99% of the participants Bersih 3.0 (Clean 3.0) on 28th April 2012 calling for free and fair election?

May God Almighty clean the country from corrupt, tyrant and oppressive leaders.

Bullying...

Recently, radio channels in Malaysia are broadcasting awareness messages against bullying and it caught my attention when one radio announcer mentioned that although bullying makes the bullied person stronger and more courages over the years, but the pain can still be felt...

I believe it is true, thinking back of the bad experiences being an alopecian back in high/secondary school, being the only guy with freak bald patches all over the scalp...

Will need make some time and do some research on the topic of "bullying". Research into the minds of a bully and the bullied...

Malaysian police ethics

I was caught by the police for overtaking a vehicle along a double line lane.

Here's how it begins. Three cars (mine was the second) were trailing behind a lorry that is going at the speed of 60 km/h on a 80 km/h road. Perhaps all the three cars were impatient including myself. So we decided to overtake the lorry, simultaneously one car after another.

All three cars were caught red handed after the overtaking by two policemen in front. All three cars were stopped aside, suprisingly only me (the driver of the second car) was asked to get down from the car and proceed to another police who was waiting by the police car. The cars in front and behind me had children (presumbly family) in them.

So the police asked for my identification, so I gave both my driving license and identity card. So the conversation began:

Police: Can I have your Identity card?

Joshua: Yes. [Gave both my driving licence and IC]

Police: I'm going to give you a ticket for overtaking on a double line lane, do you want the ticket?

Joshua: I have break the law, what else can I do?

Police: The ticket is going to cost you RM 600.

Joshua: That much???!!! That's impossible, according to the law its only RM 300 maximum.

Police: This is OPS SIKAP (Referring to the special traffic police operation for the holiday season)

Joshua: That's not right, I didn't hear from anywhere that they raised the compound/ ticket.

Police (2): [The one who stop me and dealed with the other two drivers who were in their cars]

Police (2): Why did you overtake?

Joshua: The car behind me were following very closely.

Police (2): But you shouldn't.

Joshua: Yes, I break the law.

Police: So do you want a ticket?

Joshua: What else can I do, I have broken the law.

Joshua: [ Police 2 was walking back to the other drivers returning their licence] Did the other two drivers get a ticket else well? How come I am the only one getting a ticket while not the other two?

Police: [Panicked abit] if you dont want a ticket is fine.

Police (2): [ Walked back towards the first police officer and me by the police car]

Joshua: I broke the law, so did they? So why wasn't they given a ticket as well?

Police: [couldn't answer me while trying to return my identity card and driving licence]

Police (2): We didnt gave them a ticket and we're not going to give you one either.

Joshua: [I took out my mobile and start recording down the car registration number of the other two vehicles who are leaving now, while the police looked panicked abit]

Police: We're not giving you a ticket, we didn't asked you to sign anything right.

Joshua: Really, you can do that? but I break the law.

Police: We can let you off with a warning.

Joshua: Thank you sir [Walked back to my car and drove away]

So, the moral of the story? If you break the law, bear with the consequences and deal with it. There's no need to break another law (corruption) to get away. Corrupt practices are so rampant these days, everyone in Malaysia knows it and a majority of them will get away by paying RM50 -RM 100 to the officer to get away from a summom/ticket (RM 300).

And so I was let off with a verbal warning for a traffic offence which I admitted. Three cars committed the offence and I'm the one who is given a ticket? Where is justice? If the police decide to give me a ticket still without giving the other two drivers. It will not be easy for the police when I file a COMPLAINT!

Perhaps, I should thank the other two drivers, if wasn't for them and I commited the offence alone. I will have to pay a RM300 ticket now...haha.

If we don't want a CORRUPT GOVERNMENT, we must not be CORRUPT CITIZEN or offer even a single cent of bribe as well!

Malaysia: Police must bear full responsibility!

The Malaysian government led by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and the police must bear full responsibility of the death of its citizen, hand-cuffed by police and denied its fundamental right as a living being who required immediate medical assistance (Video began at 8 minit 48 seconds). The failure for the government and the police to bear responsibility will result in an immediate of loss of the government's moral authority and credibility to continue to rule the nation.

Those who watch this video, whether you're a supporter of the government or not which does not touch your heart and pierce your soul, I will pray to God Almighty to open your eyes and ears to the truth.

May God bless the soul of this freedom fighter and all the brave men and women, including people that I know personally.

BERSIH 2.0 July 9th 2011

9th July 2011, Kuala Lumpur. Despite a widespread pre-event arrest, declaration of illegal organization, T-shirts...etc. Roadblocks, police check-points turning Kuala Lumpur into a Police-City Fotress, thousands of peaceful supporters of BERSIH 2.0 (A coalition for free and fair elections) managed to slip into the city demanding free election for all!

While the ruling coalition together with the police and media continue to downplay the rally, the fact is that many will remember the day, a day which also commemorated by Malaysians from all over the world, whether in Melbourne (Australia), Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei (Taiwan), Seoul (South Korea), London (UK), San Francisco, New York, Portland (US).

The oppressive crackdown mounting to failure to safeguard the right of peaceful assembly and fair election enshrined under the Federal Constituition will shed a bad light of the ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) in the eyes of the people, the silent majority.

The country has never been so divided lately but 9th July 2011 has been a successful day uniting Malaysians from all walks of lives, all over the world demanding freedom and democracy. Instituitions like the Election Commission and the police have shown to be nothing more than puppets ensuring no voice opposing the BN goverment can be heard among ordinary Malaysians.

One fatality has been reported due to suffocation from tear gas during a struggle with the police. The ruling coalition, police and Election Commission of Malaysia must bear full responsibility of the death and failure to uphold the Constituition and failure to take heed of the Constituitional Monarch's advice. The ruling coalition's popularity is in serious risk of descending into the popularity of the fallen Middle East governments like Egypt and Libya.

A brave and courageous for many Malaysians! Bravo! Long live the people! Long live the King!
